Recreation Director

The Greene County Board of Commissioners is accepting applications for the position of Recreation Director.  This position will lead and direct the operation, management, and improvement of parks and recreation programs, activities and facilities in order to optimize community participation, to provide an excellent mix of opportunities for all ages, and to maintain attractive facilities, within the guidelines of local and state laws, safety standards, and Greene County Board of Commissioners policies and procedures.  This is a full-time position that reports to the County Manager, and works with co-workers, elected officials, civic organizations, volunteers, media and the public to achieve successful departmental results. 

Other duties included, but are not limited to:

  • Directs the overall planning, operation, and management of department programs and facilities.
  • Leads department employees with an emphasis on employee development, teambuilding and innovation and outstanding customer service.
  • Ensures safe, clean and customer-focused parks facilities and recreational activities.
  • Budgets and accounts for all revenue and expenditures for the department, and identifies opportunities for efficiencies, and for new sources of funding.
  • Engages the public in active participation in parks programs and builds community support and partnerships, with schools, civic associations, sports associations, nonprofits and other stakeholders.
  • Experience: At least five (5) years in public parks management and recreation services with supervisory roles is preferred.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Proficiency in delivering recreation services to a diverse population and in optimizing participation.
  • Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of parks and recreation administration.
  • Familiarity with relevant laws, safety standards, codes, policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of public budgeting, accounting and planning practices.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Strong personnel management skills, including employee development and teambuilding capabilities.

Maintenance Supervisor for Recreation

The Greene County Board of Commissioners is accepting applications for a full-time Maintenance Supervisor for the Greene County Recreation Department.  This position would report directly to the Director of the Recreation Department and is responsible for supervising the recreation facility and field maintenance to ensure safe and secure recreational services that meet the needs of the County residents.  Other essential duties and responsibilities would include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist in preparing equipment, supplies and annual maintenance budget.
  • Enforce all department rules and regulations, as well as field playability standards and weather polices.
  • Perform all daily operations of the Maintenance Department. Coordinate activities with other departments as needed and advise the Recreation Director of infrastructure needs when they are discovered.
  • Act upon verbal or written instructions from the Recreation Director and Recreation Employees, citizen complaints or written or verbal work orders. Inspect problem areas to determine the nature of the work required and notify Recreation Director of requirements.
  • Maintain and monitor the Recreation Athletic facilities to assure they are clean and properly maintained for safe public use. Responsible and assists with emergency maintenance needs outside of normal business hours.
  • Plant and care for trees, shrubs, turf grasses, flowers and other plants, as well as cut and remove trees and brush on Recreation property.
  • Supervise and provide in-service training/development of seasonal employees and work with other staff to ensure that daily work goals / assignments are completed.
  • Attend workshops and special training seminars to increase knowledge and better practices of Recreation functions.

Maintenance Worker for Recreation

The Greene County Board of Commissioners is accepting applications for a Maintenance Worker for the Greene County Recreation Department.  This is a full-time position and would report to, and work closely with, the Maintenance Supervisor. Day-to-day activities would involve operating mowers, tractors, vehicles and other small equipment, as well as utilizing a variety of hand and power tools used in the daily upkeep of the grounds and buildings.   Other essential job functions would include, but are not limited to:

  • Mow and maintain park and open space areas at the Recreation Department, drag ball fields, and line fields for games following proper instructions for lines and markers.
  • Inspect, clean and perform routine maintenance of park restrooms.
  • Perform minor semi-skilled interior building maintenance such as painting, plumbing, and carpentry.
  • Perform routine maintenance on lawn and power equipment and adjust specialized turf care equipment and tools including electric motors, pumps, sprinklers, and irrigation systems.
  • Seed lawn, plant trees, and plant shrubs and flowers.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Firefighter - PRN

The Greene County Board of Commissioners is accepting applications for the position of Firefighter-PRN.  This position works a 12-hour or 24-hour shift schedule based upon availability and as assigned by the department. This position reports to a Fire Captain and works closely with other Firefighters and/or a Fire Captain as assigned by the department. This position is responsible for the operation of fire apparatus, responding to emergency scenes to perform fire suppression, emergency medical care, rescue, hazardous materials mitigation, and/or other job specific duties as assigned.

Applicants must meet the following minimum criteria:

  • Certified as a State of Georgia Firefighter 
  • Certified to the level of EMR / First Responder (or)
  • Possess a valid Georgia EMT(Basic), EMT-I, AEMT or Paramedic license
  • Possess a valid Class "F" Georgia driver's license or equivalent
  • Possess a High School Diploma or GED
  • Acceptable Criminal History and MVR
  • Good Moral Character

Prior experience is preferred.

Public Works Entry Level Positions
