Public Safety Director

The Greene County Board of Commissioners is seeking to hire its first Public Safety Director. The position is a full-time position reporting to the County Manager. The position is responsible for performing complex administrative and supervisory work that is essential to directing the daily operations and long-range planning of the County’s Emergency Services. The position will serve as the Emergency Management Agency (EMA) Director for Greene County, and work closely with, and directly oversee, the County’s Emergency Medical Services Director, the E911 Director, and the Animal Control Officer. The position will also manage and be responsible for the County’s emergence into the provision of paid fire & rescue emergency services and subsequent ongoing operations.

Preferred candidates must have at least 10 years of increasingly responsible fire and emergency service experience including at least three years of serving in a leadership role. Certifications and licensure current (or reciprocal) in Georgia as an EMT and firefighter are preferred. Strong written and oral communication skills are desired. Must be a proven leader with the ability to develop staff into a cohesive team; excellent inter-personal and political skills; a quick learner; willing to become an active member of the community at large.

Maintenance Supervisor for Recreation

The Greene County Board of Commissioners is accepting applications for a full-time Maintenance Supervisor for the Greene County Recreation Department.  This position would report directly to the Director of the Recreation Department and is responsible for supervising the recreation facility and field maintenance to ensure safe and secure recreational services that meet the needs of the County residents.  Other essential duties and responsibilities would include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist in preparing equipment, supplies and annual maintenance budget.
  • Enforce all department rules and regulations, as well as field playability standards and weather polices.
  • Perform all daily operations of the Maintenance Department. Coordinate activities with other departments as needed and advise the Recreation Director of infrastructure needs when they are discovered.
  • Act upon verbal or written instructions from the Recreation Director and Recreation Employees, citizen complaints or written or verbal work orders. Inspect problem areas to determine the nature of the work required and notify Recreation Director of requirements.
  • Maintain and monitor the Recreation Athletic facilities to assure they are clean and properly maintained for safe public use. Responsible and assists with emergency maintenance needs outside of normal business hours.
  • Plant and care for trees, shrubs, turf grasses, flowers and other plants, as well as cut and remove trees and brush on Recreation property.
  • Supervise and provide in-service training/development of seasonal employees and work with other staff to ensure that daily work goals / assignments are completed.
  • Attend workshops and special training seminars to increase knowledge and better practices of Recreation functions.

Maintenance Worker for Recreation

The Greene County Board of Commissioners is accepting applications for a Maintenance Worker for the Greene County Recreation Department.  This is a full-time position and would report to, and work closely with, the Maintenance Supervisor. Day-to-day activities would involve operating mowers, tractors, vehicles and other small equipment, as well as utilizing a variety of hand and power tools used in the daily upkeep of the grounds and buildings.   Other essential job functions would include, but are not limited to:

  • Mow and maintain park and open space areas at the Recreation Department, drag ball fields, and line fields for games following proper instructions for lines and markers.
  • Inspect, clean and perform routine maintenance of park restrooms.
  • Perform minor semi-skilled interior building maintenance such as painting, plumbing, and carpentry.
  • Perform routine maintenance on lawn and power equipment and adjust specialized turf care equipment and tools including electric motors, pumps, sprinklers, and irrigation systems.
  • Seed lawn, plant trees, and plant shrubs and flowers.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Part-Time Receptionist for Recreation Dept. 

The Greene County Board of Commissioners is accepting applications for a Part-Time Receptionist for the Greene County Recreation Department.  Duties will include, but are not limited to, answering phones, registering participants, monitoring the gymnasium, light janitorial work, opening and closing the facility and other tasks as directed by the Supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Able to work on Saturdays and week nights. Additional hours may be required during peak times of the year and special events. 
  • Skilled in the operation of all office equipment and be knowledgeable in all word processing, spreadsheet and presentation software, as well as the ability to learn Rec1 software.
  • Able to work efficiently and independently, and complete tasks and projects with frequent unscheduled interruptions.
  • Must be able to communicate well with other staff members and citizens as well as possess the ability to handle inquiries or complaints from the general public.

Building Inspector

The Greene County Board of Commissioners is accepting applications for a Building Inspector in the Building and Zoning Department.  Applicants must be self-motivated, possess excellent verbal and organizational skills, and able to work well with the public, county officials and staff.  A combination of building inspection work in the public sector and related training and certifications is preferred.

 Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

 Review architectural plans, erosion control plans, construction documents, permits and specifications for compliance with code requirements.

  • Inspect sites and buildings before construction or alteration to determine compliance and validity of permits.
  • Inspect commercial/residential building sites in process of construction, alteration, or repair for compliance with building codes and regulations for safe application of construction and installation practices.
  • Interpret codes and regulations and advise property owners, contractors, architects, engineers, lending institutions, realtors and utility companies on inspection matters relevant to construction, alternations, and repairs.
  • Investigate complaints concerning new construction, existing structures, ordinance violations, and any permitted work.
  • Issue occupancy permits.
