After receiving the results of the 2020 Census, it became clear that with the population boom in the Lake Oconee area of Greene County, coupled with declining population in four out of the five cities, new district lines for the Board of Commissioners and Board of Education would have to be drawn.
The law requires that the population be divided equally amongst the four districts with only a slight deviation. It is also preferable to utilize natural and recognizable boundaries when drawing new boundaries so that voters can more easily determine their district residency.
If you reside in any of the affected communities, make sure to verify your new district before voting in the May 2022 election.
