Thanks to SPLOST funding and some cooperative weather, Greene County’s $3.8 million 2020 Road Improvement Project is well underway. The Project will make improvements to 24.4 miles of Greene County Roads.
Increased traffic volumes including heavy shipping and construction traffic have contributed greatly to the wear & tear on local roads. Resurfacing alone on many of the heavily traveled corridors is not sufficient, so many these roadways are having a strengthening layer of aggregate placed prior to resurfacing to improve the longevity of the road surfaces. Other roads with mostly residential traffic, such as those in subdivisions, continue to receive traditional resurfacing.
The roads that were included in the 2020 SPLOST Road Improvement Project for resurfacing alone include Lewis Road, Shady Side Lane, Holmes Drive, Brick House Road, Pointe Royal Road, Kings Row Road, Dana Drive, Wyatt Road, Eastover Road, Lewis Drive, Kimbrough Drive, Fleur De Lac Lane, and Jim Adams Road.
The roads due for strengthening and resurfacing include Veazey Road, a 6.5 mile section, Macedonia Road, Randolph Church Road, Meadow Crest Road (pictured) Walker Church Road, Gray Land Road, and Lick Skillet Road.
