UPDATE II:
We are going to try again. Hopefully, mother nature will play nice this time. The contractor has scheduled the roadwork to begin on Wednesday, March 24. We will keep you updated if things change.
UPDATE I:
What do they say about the best laid plans???
The contractor has decided to wait until the rain that is supposed to arrive on Tuesday, March 16 has ended before beginning work on Walker Church Road. Currently, the forecast has the rain ending on Thursday. If that continues to be the case, the work should begin on Friday, March 19.
Road Work and Detour Information
Thanks to revenues collected through SPLOST VI the County voted on February 9, 2021 at their regularly scheduled Board Meeting to replace the more than 40-year-old cross-drains on Walker Church Road and Armour Bridge Road before they completely fail. This will be a significant undertaking that will require the existing road to be cut, the old pipe removed and replaced and then backfilled.
The work is expected to begin around March 15, 2021 barring any unexpected delays. To complete the project in the most expedient nature, it will be necessary to close the section of Walker Church Road between Armour Road and Richland Connector for approximately four (4) days and then close Walker Church Road between Leach Rd and Meadow Drive for approximately three (3) days in order to replace those cross-drains. A detour will be set in place utilizing Leach Road to Liberty Connector to Veazey Connector back to Walker Church and vice-versa. The exact re-opening of Walker Church Road will depend greatly on potential weather delays.
After the completion of Walker Church Road, there will be eleven (11) cross-drains replaced on Armour Bridge Road. This will be completed utilizing lane closures and pilot cars. You should expect delays - some longer than others. Please drive slowly watching for flaggers and work crews in the road. The road work is expected to last for about two weeks.
Greene County will provide further updates on the road closure and lane closures via the website, Facebook, and Nextdoor as the work progresses.
