Byron is a graduate of Georgia Tech with a degree in Business Management. He has lived in Greene County since 1989, though he first started frequenting family owned property in Greene County back in 1979. Byron has always been involved in our community by coaching soccer and Little League baseball, refereeing soccer games, and volunteering for the Walker Church Fire Department.
He became Assistant Chief of the department in 1990 and later was named Fire Chief in 1996. At that time he was the youngest Fire Chief in the State. He is also a certified Intermediate Level Emergency Medical Technician (
EMT-I) that regularly responds to medical emergencies in service to the citizens of Greene County, in addition to being the Emergency Management Agency (
EMA) Director for Greene County.
He started in County Government as Public Works Director in 1997 and was later hired as the County Manager in 1999.
