Fallen Hero Laid to Rest
Fallen Hero, Chris Eddy, was Laid to Rest
With an enormous amount of support and love from throughout the state of Georgia, fallen hero Battalion Chief Chris Eddy was laid to rest on September 8, 2024. Funeral services were held at the Morgan County High School.
Visitation lasted three hours, with supporters lining the sidewalk the entire time waiting to pay their respects to Chief Eddy and his family. In addition to the enormous showing of fellow public safety officials, including fire departments, EMS departments, and EMA departments, local and state police dignitaries such as Governor Brian Kemp and Representative Mike Collins were there to show their respect.
Chief Eddy received a firefighter’s funeral with honors. The state division of the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation provided the Honor Guard and bagpipe players for the funeral. Eulogies were given by County Manager Byron Lombard, Fire Chief Rodney Wiggins, EMS B-Shift Supervisor RJ Hovis, Mother-in-law Kay Sisk and Brother-in-law Loyd Sisk. Pastor Danny Harrell of Covenant Park Church in Madison officiated the service.
At the End of Watch Call Ceremony that was held at the graveside, Greene County’s 911 Dispatch issued a call to Chief Eddy over the radio. Upon not being answered three times, the dispatcher declared, “Greene County Battalion One, 1106-Chief Eddy, out-of-service forevermore.” After the End of Watch Call, sirens could be heard echoing across the cemetery and bagpipes playing Amazing Grace led him home.
Fire Chief Rodney Wiggins wants to personally thank the Georgia Mutual Aid Group for covering Greene County’s fire stations and Region 10 EMS for covering the EMS calls so that Eddy’s work family could attend a multitude of events. Their assistance allowed them a chance to grieve their fallen comrade.
