Message from the Fire Chief

Chief Wiggins standing in front of a fire truckI have the honor and privilege of being the Fire Chief of this great department and I am grateful for all of the support given to me from both members of the department and the public.  On behalf of the dedicated members of Greene County Fire Rescue, I would like to say welcome and thank you for taking the time to visit our website to learn more about our department.

Greene County Fire Rescue’s mission is committed to ensuring that the citizen’s safety is our highest priority by promoting a standard of excellence within our organization while providing trained and knowledgeable emergency personnel who are appropriately equipped to preserve life and protect property as we respond to the community’s growing needs.

Greene County was officially established in 2019 and now we have an extremely dedicated and professional workforce of 31 full-time members, 20 part-time members, and 3 volunteers who strive to accomplish that mission each and every day through the delivery of services and programs. Greene County Fire Rescue operates out of five fire stations that are strategically placed throughout the County to best serve our citizens, as well as a fire/rescue boat that can respond to emergencies on Lake Oconee. In 2019, the department received an Insurance Services Office (ISO) Public Protection Classification rating of 4/4X.
Greene County Fire Rescue also participates in a structured automatic aid program with our neighboring departments inside of our County to provide additional resources for all incidents in an organized and efficient manner. This partnership also allows us to pool our resources in order to mitigate special operations incidents by deploying additional resources and apparatus.

I look forward to leading a department that will remain committed to providing the highest level of services in the most professional, efficient, and cost-effective manner possible.
